During the Summer, Oak Street Studios brings fine arts to life for children ages 2-16 years old! Each year, our students explore exciting themes through hands-on fine arts activities, children's literature, art history, and field trips. Camps are offered as separate Week long day camps at our downtown Portland location.

Every year we have an exciting line-up of LOCAL ARTISTS! Next Summer join in & work with the best, it's sure to be an unforgettable experience!

Hand Puppets & Performance
with Shoestring Theater's Nance Parker

This camp gave children a chance to to learn from someone who is a master of the craft! Throughout the week students worked with Nance Parker to create puppets, write scripts, construct sets and perform a play to a musical score! - All was done in the Shoestring Theater's artistic tradition! It was Great Fun!

Wearable Arts
with Molly Angie

In this workshop, students were given the opportunity to learn basic concepts in fashion design and the skills to create one-of-a-kind works of art.

The camp worked to develop basic fashion sketching, pattern making, sewing, and construction skills! They created unique wearable works of art using paint & designer fabrics, ribbons, beads and more!

This camp gave the students the opportunity to learn the principals of drawing & painting through traditional and non traditional techniques. They experimented with using various media to improve their understanding of technical techniques used in two-dimensional art. Portland artist Martha Miller was the instructor.


Creating Comics & Bookmaking
with Henry Wolyniec & Allison Villani

Students experienced the thrill of bringing their ideas to life on the page and in book form! This class ran in two halves. In the first half local artist Henry Wolyniec introduced the students to all the aspects of the comic creation process, from creating a character to putting together a finished page. The second half of the day, another Portland artist, Allison Villani helped students explore their creativity in paper engineering.


Citizen Journalism
with Kate Philbrick

Students learn what it's like be a photojournalist. They worked with expert and professor at The Salt Institute, Kate Philbrick using digital cameras. Each student was like a reporter, photographing a subject and writing news stories from around Portland.

Students worked with a local potter to create brightly colored one of a kind pieces of art. Students learned hand building techniques to create fun funky pots, tiles, wall decorations, buttons and beads!

Through the magic of stop-motion photography, we can make inanimate objects appear to move around and make people do seemingly impossible stunts like fly, disappear, or even walk through walls. In this camp students took their turn as director of this craziness and produce their own stop-motion films.
